13 Legitimate Ways to Earn Up to $500 Per Year for Your Data
Earning money to share your data is one of the simplest side gigs to start.
With an expected $270 billion in revenue by 2026, big data is huge business.
We also generate a lot of data every day as people. Every place we visit, every phone call we make, every Internet search we do, and even the words we say all produce data. (A daily average of 146MB per individual!)
We have readily supplied that data to large corporations like Google and Facebook for decades. However, it does not negate its worth.
Actually, a number of respectable businesses will now compensate you for your data. I'll include my top recommendations for generating revenue from the data you produce on a daily basis in this article.
Are you ready? Let's get started!
1. Nielsen Mobile & Computer Panel
Numerous businesses, like Nielsen, will compensate you just for installing their applications and allowing them to operate in the background on your devices.
These are low-maintenance, low-overhead methods of earning money doing nothing at all.
The app is compatible with tablets, smartphones, and PCs. You may earn points worth up to $60 annually while Nielsen monitors your Internet use. Users may pay out using PayPal or exchange their points for gift cards.
(Yes, this is the same Nielsen company that has been providing statistics on TV ratings for many years.)
One Google Play reviewer claims that it is easy to use and quick to pay out. Simply leave it on your smartphone and use the points when you've accrued enough.
The most frequent grievance is that it may cause your device to lag.
2. Complete Online Surveys
These are a simple method to be paid to express your opinions, but they're not quite as "set it and forget it" as the alternatives above.
(A lot of people in Side Hustle Nation say they use these applications in the evenings while lounging on their couches.)
These are a few of our favourites.
● Swagbucks: Use this wildly popular app to earn up to $35 every survey and get a $10 bonus just for registering!
● Product Report Card: Receive alerts regarding online focus groups, clinical trials, and higher-paying product testing.
Get paid to do surveys, test games, and try out new items with KashKick.
Take three surveys every day with Survey Junkie to get up to $40 a month.
● InboxDollars: Simply join up to get a $5 bonus!
● American Consumer Opinion: Earn up to $50 each survey by joining millions of members for free.
3. Caden
Through data sharing with your consent, the software transforms your phone into an asset that generates revenue.
It was iOS exclusive at the time of publication. To find out more, read our comprehensive Caden app review.
4. Fetch
A lot of cash back applications will essentially offer you free money in exchange for monitoring your current expenditure.
Fetch, for instance, is one of my favourites. After your shopping excursions, all you need to do is take a photo of your supermarket receipts.
For what reason are they paying to have your receipts photographed? I don't really know, but I also don't mind if others don't know what we purchased.
You will eventually accrue enough points to exchange for a gift card.
It probably comes to around $10–20 a year in our household, but some consumers make a lot more.
Although there are gift card alternatives from Starbucks, Apple, Target, Home Depot, and many more, I often use Amazon.
5. Pogo
One of my most recent discoveries is the free Pogo app. Pogo allows you to earn points that you can exchange for PayPal or Venmo by providing your location and credit card transaction information.
When you join up, just connect your bank account details and activate location tracking.
As you drive about town, you'll begin to accrue location-based incentives and other points for using your credit card. My current findings indicate that Pogo should be valued between $5 and $20 annually.
To find out more, read my comprehensive review of the Pogo app.
6. Xpression on Mobile
The MobileXpression software also logs how you use your smartphone. With more than a million downloads, the money-making program has distributed more than $5 million.
You will get weekly credits that may be used for gift cards to well-known stores in return for giving this anonymised data.
After your first week (if you're in the US), they'll even send you a complimentary $5 Amazon gift card.
Comscore, the firm that created MobileXpression, is a publicly listed corporation that has operated since 1999.
7. Ibotta
One of the oldest cash back applications is Ibotta, which I still use every week to look for additional money back on our supermarket shopping.
The disadvantage is that you still need to choose the items you purchased by scrolling through each store's page. The cash back is then credited to your account once you take a photo of your receipt.
Ibotta claims that users who use the program on a monthly basis earn more than $100 annually!
(You may pay out using PayPal or gift cards.)
8. Mobile NCP
By taking images of the barcodes of the things you purchase using the National Consumer Panel Mobile app, you may earn gift cards. Stacking this with Fetch and Ibotta is a brilliant idea.
9. Honeygain
A new app named Honeygain has generated a lot of interest recently.
The website claims that sharing "your unused net traffic with data scientists" will reward you as much as $50 per month.
Installing the app—which is compatible with Windows, MacOS, and Android—connecting it to the Internet will allow you to passively collect prizes.
Users typically need 48 days to achieve $20.
Start with a $3 bonus.
Make sure you are really on an unlimited plan before you begin, however, since this seems like it may quickly use up a lot of data!
10. SavvyConnect
You may earn up to $5 per device every month with the SavvyConnect VIP program, which uses "safe, cutting-edge technology to collect data as you surf the web."
This implies that you may make $15 per month or $180 annually by connecting your smartphone, tablet, and desktop/laptop and being involved in the SavvyConnect community.
11. CoinOut
CoinOut may pay you up to $36 annually for submitting your shopping receipts, but it won't take the place of your day job.
It's simple to use, and as soon as you collect $3 in coins, you can cash out for an Amazon gift card.
To find out more, read our comprehensive CoinOut review.
12. Make a claim
By choosing to share your data with certain marketers, you may be paid for it and monitor where your data is going with Reklaim.
The software places a strong emphasis on permission and individual control. You may exchange your points for a selection of gift cards, PayPal transfers, or Venmo transfers, depending on how much data you submit.
Reklaim's relative passivity is one feature we like; as long as your account is active, you will continue to get points each week.
13. Desktop Permission Research
After you install Permission Research's program and leave it running on your Windows PC for a week, you will get a $10 Visa gift card. Following that, you will get $10 each month ($120 annually) for keeping it installed.
Safety in numbers: Through this service, over 2 million people exchange their surfing and computer use patterns.
How Can You Get Paid for Your Data the Most Effectively?
Even while there are many methods to generate money off of your data, none of them will make you wealthy. Realistically, it may only come to around $500 annually even if you followed every suggestion on this page.
Which option—or options—is ideal for you will depend on how comfortable you are sharing personal information online and if you think the benefits outweigh the risks.
Since I use a lot of these applications personally, I think they're a fun and generally unobtrusive way to earn additional cash.

Other Options for Profiting from Your Data
Receiving payment for your data is only one kind of side business. Here are some options to think about that have more earning potential but could take a little more effort to get started.
Studies on Market Research
Numerous businesses conduct focus groups and consumer research studies both in-person and online.
My own favourites are:
User interviews, with hourly wages usually ranging from $50 to $200. This is our comprehensive evaluation of user interviews.
Respondent, where $140 per hour is the average wage. This is our complete review of Respondent.
A platform for funded medical research is called Rare Patient Voice.
